What Buddy is Made Of

Things are back to business as usual around here. I'm pretending there aren't dishes in the sink and ignoring the fact that we really need to start packing up the house...one of these days.

It was hot and humid out this afternoon, so my run was inside. The basement wasn't terribly cool either, but at least it wasn't humid. I'm a little bit off my training (since I skipped runs on both Monday and Tuesday), and I didn't feel like doing mile repeats today. Rather than repeats, I ended up doing something like a progression run, 6 miles at 8:39 pace.

Apparently, the flowers in the side yard went crazy while we were out of town - they're blooming away!

Buddy doesn't get to come with us when we go to the lake house, because they have breed specific legislation there that bans all pit bulls (which isn't really an official breed). The way the law is written, it even includes dogs that look like a pit bull. A few weeks ago we bought a dna kit from a company in Canada (that they would accept the results from) to find out just what our little mutt actually is.

We have always thought he was part Boxer, and possibly Lab. So we were more than a little surprised by the results we got yesterday.

Results for your dog Buddy

Level 2
Level 4
Level 4
Level 4
Level 5

Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Boston Terrier
Bull Terrier
Newfoundland
American Staffordshire Terrier

The lower the level number, the higher percentage result (a purebred or a dog with a purebred parent would have a level 1 result). So, unless the ban gets reversed, it looks like Buddy won't be able to come play at the lake with us. Bummer. :(

It's still fun to know what breeds he's made up of, though how Newfoundland fits in, we're not quite sure!

A freak out of monstrous proportions

I keep alternating between "it's only Monday?" and "oh good, it's only Monday."

I have a lot of little things I need to get done before I leave for London, but I'm also itching to go!

We had a fun day with the kiddos until we hit nap time. Then the mood shifted and one of my generally low maintenance kids had a freak out out of monstrous proportions (we still have zero idea why) and kept pretty much everyone else from falling asleep.

I had to work later than usual today so I didn't get a run in. I'm shooting for a good, hard run tomorrow since I probably won't be running on my trip. I had a big debate about bringing my gear and trying to run while I am there, but since I don't have a race coming up I think I'm going to just take it easy. I'm sure I'll get plenty of walking in at least.

Now I'm doing laundry so I can actually pack.

And here are few more flowers from the side yard:

They're purple, so I win

Happy Friday!

This has been a longer than usual week for some reason. Maybe because I get to go to London next week?

I had a nice (relatively) mellow day at work, we only had 7 kiddos the whole day.

My poppy opened up today!

And then some really impressive storm clouds rolled in.

Buddy was unconcerned by the storm.

He's laying on top of my new shoes. I ordered them last night and they were on the porch this afternoon. Man, Zappos is good!

I swear I'm not addicted to shoes (except maybe running shoes). My super comfy black ones seem to make my weird popping foot issue come back and my old shoes that I love have a hole in them. I needed to get something so when I'm walking around London next week I don't feel like my shoes are falling apart or hurting my feet.

Plus, they're purple, so I win.

Crazy teacher and random pictures

Um, so Saturday is coming up fast!

Today was the last run on my training plan, a one mile warm-up, one mile at 9:00 pace, and a mile cool down. My foot is feeling almost normal again, and it doesn't bother me when I run, so that's good.

I started off with my 7 minute workout warm up and finished up with my stretching app again. My phone is turning into an excellent training partner!

I started to put up a new bulletin board at work today.

And I am the crazy teacher who made an indoor sandbox in her sensory bin.

I will be doing a lot of extra sweeping this month.

Some pretty flowers on the side of the house:

And some neat clouds.

Buddy, keeping an eye on the neighbors.

Over the next couple days I am going to figure out my race goals. Or I won't, and that will be fun too! :)

Sick, again?

I'm not meant to rest.

Whenever I slow down and actually rest, I get sick.

Yet another weekend day spent on the couch. Fortunately I seem to be able to keep food down now, so hopefully that means I can enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Aside from the sickness, we had a nice movie day.

I also got caught up watching Bones. Does anyone else watch it? It was a super stressful episode - made worse by the fact that I didn't realize it was the season finale until it was over. Television writers are cruel. Now I will impatiently wait for next season to resolve all this drama!

Also: Tom is pretty awesome and brought me "happy Friday" flowers yesterday. :)

What shows do you watch? Ever watch a season finale without realizing it?

I need to sleep more

I really need to get better about going to bed on time. I have been getting less and less sleep lately, and I'm starting to feel it.

Maybe it's a matter of getting more organized or maybe I just need to be better about turning off the computer/tv earlier. All I know is I need to do something, because sleep is essential to me still liking my munchkins and staying healthy enough to run.

For some reason, all the munchkins were really tired today too. We spent a lot of time outside in the morning so they (and we) could have space from each other, and they all took good naps!

Somehow, amidst the chaos, I managed to finish up our Mother's Day gifts so I don't have to think about them for the rest of the week.

I set up our new sensory bin during nap today. We're talking about weather this month, so it's weather themed!

It will obviously never look like this again once they touch it, but it's cute right now.

A little late-afternoon grassy playground action. (We have a grassy and a sandy playground. I hate the sandy one)

I had an easy 3 miles on my training plan for today, so I planned ahead and started part of my dinner before heading to the basement. It worked perfectly! There is still hope that I may get to bed on time tonight!

This is what happens if you leave Cadbury mini-eggs in your car and they get too hot. They still taste good!

A little bit of neighborhood springtime.

And springtime with Buddy.

And now a brief video of Buddy being ridiculous this afternoon.

How many hours of sleep is your ideal?

I try to shoot for around 8, but I've been closer to 7 lately and I'm really feeling the difference!

I bought a plant

My training plan started off with a rest day, which is good, because I don't know if I could have made myself do it tonight. I gave myself permission to not even think about the dishes until tomorrow too. Just not feeling it tonight.

We had a pretty good Monday at work, the kids always forget the rules over the weekend, but it didn't take too long to get back in the swing of things.

I bought this plant after work:

I'm not a big gardener, but I do like having a few plants around. This claims to like full sun, so it should be happy on the back deck.

Pretty cute.

Buddy was not a big fan of gardening, not enough jumping around for his taste.

We bought him a brush to help with his shedding (and ridiculous dandruff) this weekend. He loves it! It makes him absolutely crazy and hyper though, which makes brushing him a little more difficult.

Do you have a green thumb or a black thumb?
