I don't wanna

We had eleven kiddos by 8:45 today, welcome to Tuesday.

For science this week we put carnations in colored water. The munchkins had fun checking up on our flowers several times during the day. My boss was happier once I put a tray under these bottles so she doesn't worry about me staining the shelf. She's very protective of the classroom because it's still pretty new.

For art we did a little valentine project, stamping with paper towel tubes bent into hearts.

Some of them turned out pretty cute. Some of them turned out pretty messy.

By some miracle, one of the kiddos was picked up at 3. That brought us down to ten, which meant that I got to leave work at 3:30. For once.

But then once I was home I sat down for too long and didn't want to do my run. I got started and then I got whiny. It was only a 4 mile run, but I was just in an "I don't wanna" mood. So I started playing speed games to make time go faster. I jumped around from a 12:00/mile pace to an 8:30/mile pace (and everywhere in between), running the last half mile at 8:30/mile and I wasn't dying.

It ended up being a nice reminder that I need to push myself from time to time, because I can do a lot more than I think I can sometimes.

What do you do to shake the "I don't wanna" mood when it hits you?

So. Much. Food.

The kiddos were nuts today. More than their usual level of insane. I don't know what it was about today, but they were all crazy. I'm kind of impressed that we made it through the day without having to fill out an incident report.

Tom and I went to the Goldfish for dinner last night. Sundays are the day to go. Plus it was snowing so they weren't very busy.

My Blue Moon came with a blood orange so I took a picture for my mom.

Sunday has the best menu ever, they give you a ridiculous number of appetizers to share (yes, some of all 6!).

Family Style Appetizers
Little Neck Clams
Oysters on the half shell
Mini Crabcakes
Sauteed Mussels, garlic lemon broth
Fried Calamari
Smoked Salmon, capers, red onions

And then you get to pick from their list of soups or salads and an entree.

We both got this salad: Arugula, asparagus, pistachios, roasted pear and gorgonzola. It was SO good.

For Entrees -
Tom got: Steamed Manilla Clams in a lightly spiced tomato broth, linguini, arugula, olive oil
I got: Shrimp, herbed bread crumbs, lemon butter garlic white wine, linguini

For Dessert!
They brought out a fruit plate, as well as two small pieces of cheesecake and two small pieces of something delicious and chocolatey.

We were ridiculously full, but it was a really good meal. It was our unofficial Valentine's dinner since neither of us wants to go out on Friday when things will no doubt be insanely busy.

Was your Monday crazy?

What are your plans for Valentine's Day?

Good shoes

Long run today fueled by snacks and the second Harry Potter:

Today was a 7 mile run, which went really well. The time actually went by pretty quickly and my new shoes were awesome. My PureFlows start to rub (my arches, which is a strange place) after about mile 5, so I'm glad that the Transcends don't seem to have that problem.

I spent a few minutes like this before heading upstairs to find food.

Buddy likes to pretend he's a lap dog and creeps up onto the couch whenever he can.

See? Just a tiny pup!

Now it's time to finish up my laundry and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Ice Cream and Taxes

Buddy was very irritated when I went down to the basement to run this morning. He stood and stared at me in protest for a few minutes before giving up and laying down on his bed.

I only had an easy two miles on my training plan for today, but that pretty much felt like nothing so I kept going.

The first thing Buddy did when I finished was crawl behind the curtains to get to the sunshine.

Then we sprawled on the floor for a little while because Harry Potter was almost over and it seemed silly to turn it off with only a few minutes left.

It's hard work to sleep while I run, apparently.

After my run (and some ice cream) I had a few minutes of responsible adulthood. I finished my taxes and finally signed up for health insurance so they will stop emailing me to tell me I need to sign up. I never really go to the doctor unless I'm insanely sick, but it will be nice to have when I do go.

Now I'm back to lounging and reading Cinderella Ate my Daughter, which is pretty interesting so far!

What's the last book you read?

Impulse buy

I forgot that I wanted to tell you about my excellent impulse buys from yesterday. I went hungry shopping after work to get taco stuff for dinner. I ended up with taco stuff, buffalo wing pretzels (which I have already eaten all of) and these:

The one on top is red velvet. It's really good, and strangely feels like you're actually eating cake - cold, creamy, frozen cake. The key lime could be a little limey-er, but it's tasty too. I love all the limited edition flavors that ice cream companies are making - it's fun to try them out!

Pretty successful hungry shopping trip if you ask me!

5000 bonus points

I only took one picture yesterday. The parking lot at work in the morning:

Nothing terribly exciting has been going on here. I've been at work for the most part and spent a great deal of my time last night trying to do my taxes.

We had a really good day in my class today - only 7 munchkins and all in pretty good moods!

I was sitting in my car at lunch and it was so hot that I had to roll down the window, even though it looked like this outside:

I got 5000 bonus points from my boss for sharing one of my Buenos with her today.

 Buenos are the best.

And now it's the weekend! I have a couple of runs planned, but otherwise it's going to be a whole lot of not doing things. It's going to be great!

What are you doing this weekend?

Busy day off

Buddy took one look at the snow berm at the end of the driveway this morning and decided to relieve himself in the middle of the driveway instead. He kept looking at me like I put all the snow there and was more than ready to come inside after about a minute.

Thankfully work is closed today so I didn't have to try to drive in this crazy weather. I decided to wait for the freezing rain to stop before shoveling the driveway.

I had a decently long run (6 miles) on the schedule for tomorrow but since I'm home I decided to take advantage and get it in today. I did a one mile warm up at 12:00/mile pace, 4 at 10:00/mile and then a cool down mile at 12:00/mile. I watched part of the first Harry Potter movie while I ran and Buddy took a nap.

I'm really liking my new shoes, it took a bit to get used to them as they are more supportive (and therefore heavier) than my purple PureFlows.

After my run I headed out to shovel the driveway. The rain on top of the snow made it ridiculously heavy and I was running out of places to put it all. After an hour and a half of shoveling (and learning that my waterproof boots are no longer waterproof) I finally cleared it all.

Now I feel pretty content to do as little as possible for a while.
