I Clearly Didn't Learn

It was downright hot here today. I think we actually hit 80! Well, the back deck hit 80 anyway, I can't speak for actual accurate temperature recordings.

I had a tempo run on the schedule for the day and after my usual putzing around, I hit the basement. There's no way I was running tempos in 80 degree weather. I'm not built for that.

My ankle has been a little off lately, and I clearly didn't learn from the last time one of my ankles was hurting (it's the other one this time). I barely made it two miles in before I had to stop and do some serious (seriously painful) stick rolling on my calf. It may have brought tears to my eyes, but it pretty much instantly helped.

I managed to successfully finish my run - 6 miles, with 4 @ 8:20 pace. My calf is sore from rolling it, but otherwise everything feels pretty good. We'll see about maybe doing some stretching - I hear that's good for you. Right, Jan? :)

Buddy and I spent a few minutes on the deck after my run until it became way too hot - I need to re-adapt to warm weather.

I'm glad you guys appreciate my endless pictures of Buddy sleeping, because I can't stop taking them.

I don't have a shoe problem, I don't know what you're talking about.

Also, look how uncomfortable this looks:

Weird dog.

It Snowed Again

I think we got around 6 inches. All I know is that in parts of the yard, the snow is almost to the tops of my boots now.

Buddy is not a big fan of snow up to his chest.

Our plow guy isn't good at his job.

The dark line is the edge of the road, note the lack of curb next to it.

He's taken chunks out of all the speed bumps in the neighborhood and completely annihilated a long stretch of curb by the mailboxes. Can we get last  year's plow guy? He didn't destroy anything.

I took French in elementary school and college (Spanish in high school - I mix them up, it's exciting) and a few years ago (is 6 years still "a few?") I bought Rosetta Stone French to amuse myself. I go through phases of actually using it. I dug it out of the basement the other day and have been playing with it a bit today.

It's ok to be jealous of my sweet headset.

Some of the voice recognition sucks (especially on some shorter words), which is infuriating frustrating, but otherwise, it's fun. I wish I had bought Spanish, because it's really more useful, but what can you do?

My leg is sore from rolling it yesterday, but otherwise it is feeling good. I rolled more with the stick and spent some time doing yoga this afternoon, so hopefully I will be ready and raring to go on my run tomorrow.

What languages do you speak?

It was Beautiful

I didn't run with the group on Saturday, partially because I didn't think I would be able to do it, and partially because of this:

I'm not a fan of negative wind chills.

Saturday became a rest day, and we spent a decent amount of time shopping in the afternoon.  Tom was looking for a new coat, and I am on the hunt for some new yoga (pajama) pants. Turns out we're both pretty particular about both of those things. He was successful, I'm still looking.

This morning I geared up for my long run. I stretched. I foam rolled. I used the stick.

I found a knot in my calf (somehow related to the ankle pain?), and it hurt to roll it. I brought the stick down to the treadmill with me and stopped to roll my calf every couple of miles. Other than a bit of tightness (and the pain while I was rolling it out), my 11 miles was pain free.

It was beautiful.

Fingers crossed that I'm past this random injury - I missed running without pain!

We had a snack-a-thon (with beer) for dinner while we watched the Super Bowl. The first course was chips, salsa and guacamole. Round two was a veggie tray, and we finished up with some devil's food doughnut holes.

We planned on having burgers for dinner, but started snacking and quickly realized that we weren't going to be hungry enough for a full meal. Guess we know what's for dinner tomorrow!

Buddy did not care about the outcome of the Super Bowl.

We mostly were torn between which team we disliked more. It was a good game though!

Did you watch the Super Bowl?
